GOLWOV joined key stakeholders in a Public Participation Forum on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Femicide held at Quo Vadis Hall, Nyeri. The forum, convened by the *National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is part of a nationwide initiative by the Technical Working Group (TWG) on GBV and Femicide, appointed by His Excellency the President under Kenya Gazette Notice No. 109 of January 10, 2025. There’s urgent need for stronger measures to combat the rising cases of GBV, SGBV ,teen pregnancies and femicide in the region. The organization highlighted:

Femicide, with many survivors lacking access to justice and support. Stigma hinders survivors from reporting abuse, while perpetrators often evade justice
- Golwov does Advocacy & Awareness: Conducting community dialogues, radio talks, and school programs to challenge harmful gender norms.
- Survivor Support: Partnering with legal aid groups and healthcare providers to offer medical, psychological, and probono legal aid.
- Policy Engagement: Pushing for stricter enforcement of GBV laws and better budgetary allocations for GBV prevention programs.
- Lack of Safe Houses: Urgent need for more shelters and emergency funds for survivors.
- Slow Justice System: Call for specialized GBV courts and faster prosecution of offenders.
- Economic Empowerment: More programs to economically empower women to reduce dependency on abusive partners
- Men’s Engagement: Strengthening initiatives to involve men and boys as allies in ending GBV since GV is mostly committed by men.
