The Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) is a dynamic non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering young women aged 18 to 35 who have either survived or are at risk of gender-based violence. Recognizing the urgent need to address this pervasive issue, CREAW implements a range of initiatives designed to support and uplift these women, fostering resilience and promoting their rights.

CREAW’s mission is to create a society free from all forms of violence against women. They focus on raising awareness, advocating for policy changes, and providing direct support to young women affected by gender-based violence. By addressing both the immediate needs and the root causes of violence, CREAW aims to foster a safer and more equitable environment for all women.

CREAW  is implementing an Economic empowerment programme for young women (18-35 years) who are survivors of, or at risk of, gender-based violence in 5 counties: Nyeri, Kilifi, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Meru.

I am Rita Muthoni, 23 years old and a proud single mother. My life has not been easy. I went through the pain of gender-based violence in marriage—a storm that broke me and forced me to walk away for the sake of my child and for my own survival. In my lowest moment, hope found me in the most unexpected way. I overheard a conversation about the Jasiri sponsorship program, and something inside me whispered that maybe my life could change. With courage, I reached out to the Golden Women Voices, who embraced me and assisted me to join the program. There, I was welcomed with counselling and reminded that healing was possible. Through their support, I was connected to CREAW, who opened new doors for me—like the chance to study at Mukurwe-ini Technical Training Institute. Today, I’m pursuing a 6-month broadcast journalism course. For me, this is more than a career path. It is a way to turn my pain into power—my silence into voice. I dream of telling stories that matter: stories of resilience, justice, and hope, so that no woman ever feels alone in her struggle. My journey is not just about survival. It’s a rebirth. I am proof that even in the darkest valley, light can be found and with courage, a new chapter can begin. I am grateful to Jasiri, Golden Women Voices, and CREAW for walking with me, and I carry their impact with me as I build a brighter future.

My Name is Ann Magdaline Wambura. The picture above shows how I place something on the table. I am a Survivor of GBV. Through Golden Women Voices, I became familiar with the CREAW and Jasiri programs. I met with the CREAW organization. A centre for rights education and awareness, and I rate the organization as best in governance and human rights because it promotes, protects, and actualizes women's and girls' rights and freedoms. The organization has trained me in life skills and financial literacy. I greatly benefited from the training, as it helped me manage my finances and achieve economic independence. I am a beneficiary of Ksh25,000. I am looking forward to expanding my business. Please share this photo and the accompanying information.

As a survivor of gender-based violence, my journey to recovery and empowerment has been marked by resilience and hope. Rescued by the Jasiri Program and supported by the CREW, I found solace and a new beginning. These organizations played a pivotal role in my life, offering me the chance to pursue my dreams. With their support, I was able to attend Giathugu Youth Polytechnic, where I honed my skills in electrical installation. This opportunity not only empowered me but also helped me regain my confidence. Today, I stand stronger, ready to illuminate my path and inspire others with my story.
