Golden Women Voices Against GBV-Mukurweini is a registered Community-Based Organisation (CBO) operating within Mukurweini Sub-County, Nyeri County. The group has a diverse membership of 21 individuals, representing both genders, united in their commitment to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Our key focus areas include:
The organisation was formed in response to a rising number of GBV and SGBV cases, including defilements, rape, and domestic violence, in Mukurweini Sub-County. Many incidents go unreported or are informally resolved, often involving monetary settlements that deny survivors justice.
Recognising the urgent need for action, community champions came together to establish and register this CBO with the Department of Social Services. The organisation seeks to champion the rights of women, girls, boys, and other vulnerable individuals, with a particular focus on the most affected groups—women and girls.
Tragic incidents such as defilements, rape, femicide, suicide, and child abuse have highlighted the severity of the issue, underscoring the need for awareness and intervention. Golden Women Voices Against GBV-Mukurweini has been actively involved in advocacy efforts, including participating in events such as the World Population Day, which was held in Mukurweini to draw attention to these challenges.
