Golden Women Voices Against GBV: Advocating for a Safer Future

Gender-based violence (GBV) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) continue to be pressing issues in Mukurweini Sub-County, affecting countless lives, particularly women and girls. Recognizing the urgent need for action, a group of committed individuals came together to form Golden Women Voices Against GBV-Mukurweini, a registered Community-Based Organisation (CBO) dedicated to fighting GBV, raising awareness, and supporting survivors.

Why the Organisation Was Formed

The organisation was established in response to the alarming rise in cases of defilement, rape, domestic violence, femicide, suicide, and child abuse in the community. Many of these incidents go unreported or are informally settled through monetary compensation, denying survivors the justice they deserve. Determined to break this cycle of silence and impunity, community champions united to create a structured platform to advocate for the rights of vulnerable individuals, particularly women and girls.

Golden Women Voices Against GBV-Mukurweini has been actively involved in advocacy efforts, including participating in key events such as World Population Day, using such platforms to draw attention to GBV-related challenges and push for solutions.

Mission and Vision

At the heart of the organisation’s work is its mission:
“To prevent and combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Mukurweini Sub-County by creating awareness, empowering communities, and providing support to survivors, while advocating for justice, equality, and a violence-free society.”

Guided by this mission, the organisation envisions a safe and inclusive community where all individuals—especially women and girls—live free from violence, enjoy equal rights, and have access to justice and opportunities for a dignified life.

Creating Change in the Community

Golden Women Voices Against GBV-Mukurweini operates with a multi-faceted approach to tackling GBV, focusing on:

Whether through advocacy, reporting cases, supporting survivors, or participating in awareness campaigns, every action counts.
